Editorial Reviews From School Library Journal Grade 1-4 acupuncture fileserve. One premise in an attractive picture book that does not reach its full potential acupuncture fileserve. A fifth grade girls practice their writing skills in the description of an event that was in the same year she passed seven. An antique mirror is temporarily stored in his room and begins to reveal magical powers. At first, his only child observes the many scenes. Soon she is an active participant in these magical worlds. The colorful pictures are typical of the style of the day, the now familiar "Carl" series (Farrar). The girl seems quite natural and believable in every scene? While the faces in the mirror, flying on a magic carpet, or eggs for decoration with a giant rabbit family. Unfortunately, the text is not as uniform as the illustrations. Sometimes the narrator sounds like a spirited student. At other times, it sounds like an adult by imitating the voice of a child. The target audience is unclear. Small children take the magic a lot easier than 10 years, but the topic of reality, fantasy, magic, and periods of life can be lost on young readers. Chris Van Allsburg is always the master of illusion picture book.? Heide Piehler, Shorewood Public Library, WICopyright 1997 Reed Business Information, Inc.
